The opening ceremony of the “Juma” Mosque in the Narimanov district

On April 20, the opening ceremony of the “Juma” Mosque in the Narimanov district of Baku took place after major repairs and reconstruction. This significant event was carried out on the initiative of the head of state.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony.

In Azerbaijan, special attention is always paid to various religions and cultural monuments, particularly Islamic religious sites. The multicultural values, atmosphere of tolerance, and steps taken to strengthen solidarity within the Islamic world are closely observed on a global scale. The construction of new mosques and the major repairs of existing ones are a clear reflection of this approach.

The participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva in the opening of the “Juma” Mosque on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan holds symbolic significance.

It should be noted that the “Juma” Mosque has been operational since 1998. However, over the years, the mosque building had fallen into a state of disrepair. On the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, major repair and restoration works began at the mosque in 2021. The reconstruction was carried out at a high level and completed in April 2024.

As part of the work, the two minarets that were in a dangerous condition were dismantled and rebuilt. Strengthening and restoration works were carried out on the mosque building, a new ablution facility was constructed, and the necessary infrastructure was created.

The mosque, which can accommodate up to 600 worshippers at the same time, has its first floor designated for men and the second floor for women.

The modern conditions created at the mosque once again confirm that the protection of national and spiritual values is one of President Ilham Aliyev’s top priorities. On the instructions and initiatives of the head of state, dozens of mosques, religious monuments, and pilgrimage sites have been constructed, restored, and reconstructed both in the capital and across the regions. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation has also made significant contributions to these efforts.

The comprehensive renovation and reconstruction of the “Juma” Mosque in the Narimanov district demonstrate the consistent nature of the measures being taken to protect national and spiritual values in our country.
