On May 28, during his visit to Aghdam, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, visited the Qiyasli Mosque. During the visit, the Executive Director of the “Ag City” project, Ruslan Sadigov, provided the head of state with detailed information about the history and current state of the mosque.
It was reported that during the occupation, Armenian vandals destroyed this ancient mosque, causing extensive damage. Animals were kept inside the mosque, and later, as they retreated, the building was set on fire. As a result, the mosque suffered significant destruction and lost its original appearance. It was noted that documents reflecting the mosque’s original state had been presented by restoration experts, and necessary research is currently being conducted.
It should be noted that the Qiyasli Mosque is one of the most valuable historical and religious monuments in the Karabakh region that fell victim to Armenian vandalism. Located in the Qiyasli village of the Aghdam district, this mosque dates back to the 18th century and is considered one of the architectural masterpieces of that period. Due to its historical and cultural significance, the mosque was registered as a locally significant architectural monument in 2001.
This mosque is not only part of Karabakh’s religious and cultural heritage but also a testament to our nation’s history and national-spiritual values. President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to the site and his attention to the condition of the mosque exemplify the consistent state policy aimed at restoring and preserving historical monuments. There is no doubt that the Qiyasli Mosque will be meticulously restored in the near future, regaining its former grandeur and once again showcasing our spiritual heritage to the world.
